UMBRA HOLOGRAMEI – THE SHADOW OF THE HOLOGRAM
THE HOLOGRAM BUILDER – THE MASTER OF ELITES – GEORGE SOROS
GEORGE SOROȘ VISION ON EUROPE, RUSIA, GERMANY … ROMANIA
“How could this happen? The only explanation I can find is that elected leaders failed to meet voters’ legitimate expectations and aspirations and that this failure led electorates to become disenchanted with the prevailing versions of democracy and capitalism.
“Quite simply, many people felt that the elites had stolen their democracy.”
“The lack of redistributive (rent-seeking) policies is the main source of the dissatisfaction that democracy’s opponents have exploited.”
Mr Soros, once a self-proclaimed “avid supporter” of the European Union, has now turned his back on the bloc saying that after the financial crash of 2008 (Goldman Sachs) what was once seen as a relationship of equals as been turned into one of “creditors and debtors” which is “neither voluntary nor equal”.
Germany was the main cause of the crash (Goldman Sachs was n/a), according to Soros, for only serving its “narrow self-interest” to the detriment of those who rely on it.
Mr Soros also blamed Angela Merkel as she failed to take a European-wide perspective after the financial meltdown and insisting that each member state should look after its own institutions. (She didn’t want to pay in 2006 for Goldman Sachs ‘legal’ profits, and for Microsoft licences).
2005 – The city of Munich moved 15.000 users from Microsoft to Linux (LiMux). Microsoft had fought hard to retain the government’s business, with chief executive Steve Ballmer interrupting a skiing holiday in Switerland, to pay a personal visit to the city’s mayor. The software giant also tried to tempt the government with a range of deals and discounts.
Soroș said “that was the start of a process of disintegration” which led to the EU as well as the eurozone becoming “increasingly dysfunctional” hence “democracy is now in crisis”.
Regarding US President-elect Donald Trump, he refers to as a “con artist and would-be dictator”.
While Mr Soros has some concerns about the future of the US, he is more worried about the future of the EU which he fears could come under the influence of the Russian president.
He wrote: “In France, the two leading contenders are close to Putin and eager to appease him. If either wins, Putin’s dominance of Europe will become a fait accompli.”
Mr Soros said that the EU is “on the verge of breakdown” and likely to follow a similar path of the breakup of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s.
26 August 2015 – Manuel Durao Barroso – “Donald Trump é um politico palhaço e xenófobo” DONALD TRUMP IS A POLITICAL CLOWN AND A RACIST.

16 January 1996 – MICROSOFT “The analysts…the financial analysts particularly carry a lot of weight. We may think that, you know, Christine Comerford and Jesse Burst and other people who write in the Windows magazines are important, but the most important analysts are the guys who work for, like, Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers and the other financial analysts. And if you can influence those guys’ opinions…and they almost never hear directly from. like, evangelists, and so when they do you have to be real careful. You don’t want Bill calling you up and saying, “What was this I saw from your _______?“ You have to be real careful. But going to those guys and giving them information can be very, very leveraged, because, you know, everybody reads PC Week, but the VPs and above, those guys are reading the Goldman Sachs analyst reports. They’re the guys, you know, really making the decisions.” MICROSOFT – DRG Summit—January 16, 1996 “Power Evangelism” and “Relationship Evangelism” Presented by James Plamondon and Marshall Goldberg

MANUEL DURAO BARROSO JOINS GOLDMAN SACHS
8 July 2016 – MANUEL DURAO BARROSO – “I like challenges, that’s why I’ve accepted this position […] I could have accepted easily others that were much more relaxed, I prefer in fact some position where I will have to commit myself.”
Barroso said that he was “very impressed” by Goldman’s “commitment to the highest standards” on ethics and this his role as chairman of Goldman Sachs International would include reinforcing the firm’s culture of “integrity, consequence, diligence, responsibility”. Laura Norman Financial Times – 8 July 2016
THE EU ETHICS COMMISSION INVESTIGATES HIS NEW ROLE
12 September 2016 – European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker
announced he had ordered a probe into Barroso’s new role at Goldman Sachs – the institution with strong links to both the 2007-2008 financial crisis and the Greek debt debacle, which destabilized the euro currency – to determine whether Barroso had breached EU ethics guidelines, after mounting pressure from the EU Ombdusman Emily O’Relly.
The EU Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly cited the public outrage sparked by the appointment of Barroso, referring to a petition by EU staff calling for „strong exemplary measures to be taken against Barroso, whose behavior dishonors the European civil service and the EU as a whole.” As of Monday, the petition addressed to the three presidents of the European institutions had collected nearly 140,000 signatures. Barroso’s new job is „a very severe attack on the trust of EU citizens in their institutions and the EU project, which is already very low,” an EU staffer behind the petition told DW. „We don’t need this – absolutely not.”
„It is, at the worst possible moment, a disastrous symbol for the EU and a gift horse for the europhobes that a former Commission president is associated with the unbridled and unethical financial values that Goldman Sachs represents.”
BARROSO DEFENDS HIMSELF AND GOLDMAN SACHS
13 September 2016 – Manuel Barroso“It has been claimed that the mere fact of working with Goldman Sachs raises questions of integrity. While I respect that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, the rules are clear and they must be respected. These claims are baseless and wholly unmerited. They are discriminatory against me and against Goldman Sachs, a regulated company operating in the internal market.”
“I have not been engaged to lobby on behalf of Goldman Sachs and I do not intend to do so […] I am very clear about my ongoing responsibilities to the European institutions and naturally I will maintain my commitment to act with integrity and discretion,”
BARROSO IS ’LEGALLY’ DISCREET WITH GOLDMAN SACHS
26 September 2016 – Jose Manuel Barroso had closer contact with Goldman Sachs during his tenure as European Commission chief than he has previously admitted, according to Portuguese media.
Correspondence obtained by Portuguese daily Publico under a freedom of information request suggests that Barroso, who took a job with the US bank earlier this year, held unregistered meetings with Goldman’s top people.
In one email dated 30 September 2013, Goldman boss Lloyd Blankfein thanked Barroso for their “productive discussions” and said the bank’s senior partners were delighted about their “extremely fruitful meetings”.
Publico reported that Goldman executives were happy to suggest “on a confidential basis” changes to EU policies, which Barroso’s cabinet read “with great interest”.
The newspaper also found that one of Barroso’s advisers was “unfavourable” to putting down in the commission’s records meetings between his boss and the bank.
Filing meetings between EU top officials and interest representatives was not mandatory at the time, so Barroso’s meetings were registered only when his cabinet deemed it suitable.
BARROSO IS FOUND ’LEGALLY’ ETHICAL BY THE ETHICS PANEL
31 October 2016 – The EU ’ad-hoc’ three experts panel found “there are not sufficient grounds to establish a violation of the duty of integrity and discretion” by Mr Barroso, whose appointment as non-executive chairman of Goldman Sachs’ London-based investment bank came after the end of a cooling-off period for former commissioners. They must give notification if they take a new role within 18 months of their departure. At the same time, the three-person panel made clear its distaste for Mr Barroso’s choice, saying that he “has not shown the considerate judgment one may expect from someone having held the high office he occupied for so many years”.
THE EUROPEAN OMBUDSWOMAN DISAGREES
The European Ombudsman, which investigates complaints about EU institutions — said she was considering further measures, including potentially setting up her own inquiry into “this important issue”. Emily O’Reilly said the ad hoc ethics committee’s published opinion “appears to have based its inquiry solely on the reading of three documents already in the public domain”. “There is no evidence, at least in the opinion, of any other relevant records being requested, received, or any interviews with relevant people undertaken,” she said in a statement. The commission itself also needs to decide how to respond to the panel’s findings. A spokesman on Monday said it “will examine the committee opinion and will decide on an appropriate follow-up”.

PER HELLSTROM – Former Head of DG Comp – Computer and Electronics Division dealing with Microsoft and Apple, moved illegally to work with Apple.
According to the EU Staff Regulations, since 1 January 2014 Commission staff are not allowed to undertake sabbatical roles … Per Hellstrom received the approval to move to Apple on February 2014, and later the right to work as a registered lobbyst for Apple.
Case T–14/11 Omnis vs. Commission/Microsoft – Per Hellstrom defended the Commission/Microsoft (Nestor&Nestor) against Omnis Group.
(CAVEAT – We will develop the subject separately in a future chapter)
GIOVANI KESSLER – Director of OLAF
Following Omnis’ requests in the cases – OF/2005/0417 – OF/2010/0068, Giovani Kessler in association with Per Hellstrom, investigated Microsoft from 2005 – 2014 … investigations are still under course.
11 March 2016 – Giovani Kessler “His immunity was lifted by the European Commission,” Eric Van der Sypt, a spokesman for the federal prosecutor’s office (Belgium) told AFP.
Many EU civil servants in Belgium are granted diplomatic immunity, in addition to paying no taxes in the country.
The European Anti-Fraud Office, known as OLAF, said with his immunity lifted, Kessler now had the option to bring legal action against the commission before the European Court of Justice “in order to protect OLAF’s independence”.
“This would be an unprecedented step, but one that is crucial in ensuring the independence and proper functioning of OLAF and, through OLAF’s investigative work, the protection of the EU budget,” the office said in an email.
6 June 2016 – Giovanni Kessler, General Director of the EU anti-fraud office (OLAF) filed the complaint in the General Court of the EU, saying the removal of his protection from prosecution was a threat to the agency’s independence, which is guaranteed in the EU law.
7 June 2016 – Giovanni Kessler sues the Commission “In a saga that refuses to die down, the EU’s anti-fraud chief has launched a legal challenge to the European Commission’s decision to lift his immunity from prosecution in connection with a Belgian police investigation on the Dalligate affair.
Giovanni Kessler, director-general of the EU anti-fraud office (OLAF) filed the complaint in the General Court of the EU, saying the removal of his protection from prosecution was a threat to the agency’s independence, which is guaranteed in EU law.”
23 July 2016 – The General Court refused fast –track – No date for the appeals ruling has been given. Kessler called for a decision on whether to lift his immunity to be fast-tracked using so-called interim measures, which are a way for EU judges to swiftly rule on sensitive complaints “to prevent serious and irreparable damage to a party.”
The General Court of the EU, which handles cases involving EU civil servants, disagreed.
“The tribunal notes Mr. Kessler failed to identify any investigations, opened by himself, that would become obstructed or more difficult by the threat to face a penal prosecution trigged against him by Belgian authorities,” said the Court in a statement.
GOLDMAN SACHS IS ACCUSED OF INTERNATIONAL FRAUD AND CORRUPTION
15 September 2016 – Jean Claude Junkers – “I think José Manuel Barroso is an honest man and he is a friend. Personally I do not have a problem with him working for a private bank – but maybe not this bank,” Juncker said in an interview featured on YouTube (at 45 mins).
“Goldman Sachs was one of the organizations that knowingly or unknowingly contributed to the enormous financial crisis we had between 2007 and 2009. So one does wonder
about the particular bank he has ended up working for.”
Goldman Sachs is an international example of crony capitalism, which fraud their clients (Lybia), bribe Prime Ministers (Malaysia), bankrupt countries (Greece), etc.
Goldman Sachs helped the Greek government to mask the true extent of its deficit with the help of a derivatives deal that legally circumvented the EU Maastricht deficit rules. At some point the so-called cross currency swaps will mature, and swell the country’s already bloated deficit.
Acording to analysts Goldman Sachs used also Romania since 1997, in order to complete an even more complex ’legal’ crossed transactions.

According to the authors and other public information, The Romanian Ministry of Communications invited the international business community to submit expressions of interest in providing advisory services on the privatization of Romtelecom. In July 1997, the contract for advisory services was awarded to Goldman Sachs, which participated in the bid on behalf of a consortium that included SkaddenArps, Price Waterhouse and the Romanian law firm Nestor, Nestor, Kingston and Petersen.
The Romanian government hired Goldman Sachs and Company to provide advice for the privatization process, but was later dissatisfied that a variety of potential buyers (such as investment banks) were discounted. The interesting part is that Goldman Sachs and Company was at the time also helping Greece to ‘mask its true debt’ in order to ‘prepare’ for being accepted into the euro zone (Balzli, 2010). Thus, you may even conjecture that OTE’s purchase of part of Romtelecom may have been a small part of this debt concealment strategy. It is also interesting that investment banks were interested in buying Romtelecom, given that OTE itself was not bought directly by Deutsche Telekom, but was first bought by the Marfin Investment Group which later sold its shares to Deutsche Telekom. There was thus a clear conflict of interest in Goldman Sachs and Company’s advice to favour OTE (which was a Greek state company at the time) and discard investment banks as a group while at the same time advising the Greek government about a variety of issues including its euro-adoption preparations.
According to the Ministry of Communication’s plan (as reported by the Romanian daily newspaper Ziua: on 27 October 1997), about 30 per cent of Romtelecom’s shares were supposed to be sold to a ‘strategic investor’ selected via international tender from among the leaders of the world telecommunications market. The sale of 30 per cent of the company was initially expected to takc place by mid-1998 with the help of advisers from Goldman, Sachs and Company, and was seen by many as a ‘bellwether for privatization in Romania and for the country’s reforms as a whole’ (Communications Today, 1997).
The Minister of Privatization was reported to have said that international advisers Goldman Sachs and Company ‘chose the wrong strategy in the sale of a strategic stake of the state telecommunication operator Romtelecom. He said that the privatization strategy was not well chosen and the advisors made a mistake by barring investment banks from bidding’ (Dow Jones International News, 1998).
The Minister indicated he had letters from six top foreign investment banks interested in Romtelecom. He also said that the time for the sale was wrong as ‘similar but more attractive companies were offered for sale in 1998’, meaning that the competing offers have absorbed much of the investible funds. Finally, the bids for Romtelecom were due on 31 October 1998. The deal was concluded within a month. The winner was OTE, who ‘was given the nod to buy a 35% stake of Romtelecom SA in Romania’s biggest privatization to date’ (The Wall Street Journal Europe, 9 November 1998, P- 3)
Privatization authorities approved the Greek company’s 5675 million offer which included a commitment to invest as much as $400 million over three to five years. ‘OTE offered the best price possible on the market at this moment,’ the Telecommunications Minister told Romanian media. Telecom Italia SpA’s Stet International, the only other bidder, made a technical offer for the stake but declined to make a financial bid (Ziua, 11 November 1998). At this point, it became obvious that a decisive threshold in internationalization had been crossed. Even if they had not lived up to initial expectations, things were moving towards international integration. Still, it is interesting to take a closer look at the real dimensions of the internationalization brought about by this process. Interestin
However, by the late 1990s the conditions for telecommunications priva-tization were no longer as good as they had been. This story has a further international twist. The Romanian government hired Goldman Sachs and Company to provide advice for the privatization process, but was later dis-satisfied that a variety of potential buyers (such as investment banks) were discounted.
Viewing issues related to the privatization and internationalization of a major state company with a pivotal role in a transition economy through the lens of public choice theory has highlighted new dimensions to the analysis. As we have seen, the privatization process in former communist countries is a major element in the power play between former communist interest groups, trying to maintain the pre-existing rent-seeking structure, and reformist groups. Foreign investment and firm internationalization disrupts the prevailing rent-seeking structure characterizing a particular national economic system. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that status quo special interests would oppose it. In the Romanian case, they used several methods ranging from the less disruptive MEBO-type privatization to nationalist propaganda.
On the other hand, it is important to note that firm internationalization by itself does not necessarily mean a pro-free market arrangement. Internationalization may mean a mere change in the embedded rent-seeking environment.
A company like Goldman Sachs advising several governments can create an international rent-seeking structure. In this event, internationalization could entail moving from one rent-seeking system to one that is not just national but international or transnational in scope.
Rent – seeking – engaging in or involving the manipulation of public policy or economic conditions as a strategy for increasing profits.
